RESOURCES
The group
is equipped for electron microscopy, x-ray diffraction, optical diffraction,
ligth microscopy and fluorescence, biochemistry, image processing,
3D-reconstruction, molecular modeling and computing:
-
The group is equipped with a
Philips CM120 cryo-electron microscope with Gatan cryoholder, a 100 kV
(Hitachi H500) TEM electron microscope and also has devices for rapid freezing,
thin-sectioning, image-enhanced video light microscopy, basic biochemistry
and optical diffraction.
-
Image analysis is performed
on a Silicon Graphics O2, Sun Sparc I and SPARC II workstations, equipped
with a digitizer and a film recorder, using a general- purpose image processing
software adapted by us from the MRC Laboratory of Molecular Biology image
processing package. We have implemented algorithms for 3-D reconstruction
(including Bessel separation) and cross-correlation analysis. Molecular
modelling is done using MSI Insight II software.
-
We are also equipped with a
Siemens x-ray generator and a low-angle diffraction camera with a position
sensitive detector.
-
Recently we have been moving
into protein sequence computer analysis and molecular graphics. Currently
we are buying another Silicon Graphics O2 Worstation.
